Dates: Saturday 2nd May - Tuesday 12th May 2015

In light of the tragic earthquake in Nepal on 25.4.2015, it is with enormous regret and sadness that we are cancelling the 2nd Walking Workshop in Nepal.

Please donate to our appeal here to Help Moving Mountains Nepal with their recovery efforts.

About the Walking Workshop

This Walking Workshop is a TEFI (Tourism Education Futures Initiative)  & TIPSE (Tourism Innovation Partnership for Social Entrepreneurship) led inspirational event for tourism & hospitality educators who wish to become change-makers in their discipline in order to passionately and courageously transform the world for the better. The workshops are designed to take participants completely outside their normal environments and connect them with like-minded colleagues from around the world.

This second Walking Workshop in Nepal (see here for information about the first), is an eleven day walking event which will take you off the beaten track to the rural villages of Bupsa, Khari Khola and Bumburi in the Lower Solu Khumbu region of the Himalayas.

Here you will visit relevant, meaningful and hands-on projects that are developed and supported by Adventure Alternative (this trip Tour Operator) and Moving Mountains Nepal (charity arm of Adventure Alternative) and witness first-hand the transformational potential of social entrepreneurship and how it has positively affected life in these villages without negative impacts on the local traditions of the Sherpa people.

You will be asked to deliver one or more “Walking Papers” during the two day trek approaching the Lower Solu Khumbu region whilst the core of the workshop will take place in the villages of Bupsa and Bumburi over a three day period. The two day trek back will also provide opportunities to consolidate and discuss the outcomes before the final workshop in Kathmandu.

Gavin Bate, Founder of Adventure Alternative and Chairman of Moving Mountains Trust will be the workshop facilitator sharing his 20 years of experience as a social entrepreneur and change-maker. Gavin won the 2014 WTM Responsible Tourism Awards for Poverty Alleviation.

Adventure Alternative will manage all the logistics and the expedition will be fully supported with a very special and incredibly lively team of experienced staff. Given the nature of the Walking Workshop, this event is strictly limited to a maximum of 20 participants.
